„Social Identity”
Why do we behave differently when we on our own and when we are in a group?
How many 'selves' do we have? What do our body and clothes tell about us?
How many dialects of mother tongue do we speak and why?
The aim of the workshop is to answer these questions by iintroducing the
complex notion of social identity. The participants will have an
opportunity to learn more about various approaches to the concept, e.g.
Social Identity Theory, as well as to explore its components and factors
influencing the process of identity formation.
Moreover, the issues such as belonging to a group, the role of language and
power relations, prejudice and discrimination will be addressed in
reference to the key concept. Thus, everybody who is interested in finding
out more about herself or himself as embedded within the social context is
welcomed to join us on Thursday
